Committees

GGIA task list - may 15, 2003, committee meeting

Governmental/Environmental Committee

1.  Work on the project Fayette County, the City of Fayetteville, the Storm Water Management

Association and the GGIA are partnering together on designed in the 319H grant.

2.  Keep updated on the City Atlanta Green Roof Landscape installation at City Hall.

3.  Pursue arranging a meeting with the Governor.

Invasive Plants Committee

1.  Committee to consider asking a member of the Georgia Department of Agriculture to serve on the

committee.

2.  GGIA to fund $500 survey assessing the problem of invasive plants on federally and state managed

lands.  ($100 of the cost to come from the Retail Division and $150 of the cost to come from the Landscape Division and $250 of the cost to come from the Wholesale Division.)

Marketing Committee

1.  Andy Rogers will continue to work with Walter Reeves to promote the “Georgia Grown” program

with Reeves as he films at the Center for Nursery Research.

2.  Brendon Smith is continuing to design the booth at SNA.

3.  Continue working on T-shirt designs.

4.  Continue to get together all of the people for testimonials for the different divisions.

5.  Sherry is to supply a list of licensed companies that are not members by geographic region for

membership blitz.

6.  Send out Tail Gate brochures to north Florida and south Alabama.  Sherry to get with Mel Garber to

see if he can share his annual GA/FLA updated meeting list.

7.  Discuss Kevin Karel's idea of status-type membership levels for GGIA.

Tradeshow Committee

1.  Have the "Gardener's Palette" brochures ready by the SNA show and a mailing list ready to use by

September. 

2.  Reminder postcards should be prepared with mailings just before the event.

3.  Joe Napoli to meet with the marketing manager at Pike Family Nurseries to see if Walter Reeves can

be located at the event.

4.  Chris Butts will contact last year’s exhibitors and new prospects. He will also check with Chick-Fil-

A in Athens to see if they will provide complimentary biscuits for the morning event.

5.  Joe Napoli to work with Sherry on designing the area for the “how-to” clinics in the upstairs exhibit

hall.  The goal of the design is to drive landscape contractor traffic.

6.  Andy Hull and Sherry are to promote these clinics when they visit with the leadership of the

Georgia Chapter of ASLA.

Landscape Certification Committee

1.  John Strickland and Rex Bishop will be meeting with the Alabama committee on May 30, 2003 to

discuss how to adopt the Georgia test for Alabama.

Certified Plant Professional Test Committee

1.  Jim Midcap will continue to work to solicit authors for the new GCPP test manual.

2.  The Committee will continue to discuss separate levels for the test.

Education Committee

1.  Continue to working  on the four sessions in four tracts for the educational portion of the show.

2.  Devise a specialized way to highlight the retail sessions.

3.  Mike Cunningham is to prepare a personalized solicitation with a Retail Division president’s message

encouraging attendance.

4.  Look into a way to record the sessions.

Awards Committee

1.  Finalization of new programs to be finished by retreat.

2.  Discuss within division the merits of a divisional volunteer of the year award.

3.  Finalize the brochures earlier so GGIA staff can mail out earlier and the board can have more time

to make its decision.

4.  Compile a listing of former award winners to be listed on the individual award nomination form.

Scholarship Subcommittee
Landscape Division

1.  Discuss Division goals with president Brendan Smith and report at future meeting.

2.  Assess the Landscape division and clarify future goals. 

3.  Recruit landscapers for membership and teams of landscapers for the annual golf tournament.. 

Wholesale Division

1.  The wholesale division will begin working to encourage attendance at the upcoming Tailgate Tours.

2.  Sherry is to provide a list of attendees from last year so division members can call or fax those

people to encourage attendance.

3.  Bill Fallin will work to get local Representatives and/or Senators in attendance at each tour.

Retail Division

1.  Sherry to find the contact and determine a meeting date between the officers of Georgia State

Florists Association and the Retail Division.

2.  Finalize information on the Retail tour/class on September 17.

Sales & Marketing Division

1.  Sherry is to send golf brochures to Bill Fallin so he can invite Senators and Representatives to play

at the golf tournament.

2.  Work on “friendly competition” among Divisions of the association for the golf tournament.
