The members of the Georgia Green Industry Association are giving the landscape at UGA’s Hoke Smith Building a facelift. Georgia’s horticulture industry relies heavily on the experts in the UGA Cooperative Extension Program and wants their building to have a world class landscape.
Growers, landscape contractors, irrigation contractors and suppliers of materials like soils and fertilizers have stepped up to the plate contributing not only the plants, but all of the materials needed to complete this project. Installation is slated for the week of July 27th. Monday through Wednesday are scheduled for installation of the irrigation system and site prep. Thursday and Friday are reserved for planting the many different shrubs and trees for the project along with the turf and mulch that will complete the landscape.
GGIA is currently seeking volunteers who would like to help make this dream a reality. Students, Master Gardeners and industry members are encouraged to participate. The bulk of labor will be needed on Thursday and Friday. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with seasoned industry professionals and see a project go from start to finish in a very short timeframe. If you or your group would like to participate, please contact Chris Butts with GGIA at email@example.com or at
