GGIA JUNIOR CERTIFIED PLANT PROFESSIONAL
& HORTICULTURE END-OF-PATHWAY ASSESSMENT
The Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) is proud to share that the GGIA Junior Certified Plant Professional is now officially recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as the End-of-Pathway Assessment for students completing the horticulture pathway.
Developed in 1991 by GGIA in partnership with Georgia Agriculture Education, this certification was designed to help students prepare for real-world careers in the state’s ornamental and environmental horticulture sector—commonly known as the green industry.
Today, GGIA continues to lead this program in partnership with Georgia Agriculture Education and the UGA Center for Urban Agriculture, ensuring the content remains relevant and aligned with current industry standards.
The certification includes two key components:
-
Plant Identification Exam: Focused on commonly used landscape and ornamental species.
-
Written Exam: Covering core horticultural knowledge and workplace professionalism.
Earning this credential signals to employers that a student has dedicated time and effort to develop industry-ready skills and is prepared to enter Georgia’s growing green industry workforce.
